Hi there! I’m Lizzy Francis — an editor and reporter for hire.
Most recently, I was the News Editor at Fatherly, a men’s lifestyle website that helped dads lead fulfilling lives. Fatherly is owned by Bustle Digital Group. I’m based in New York City.
I’m an experienced editor and reporter. I spent the last three years rebuilding the news/trending section on Fatherly from the ground up to best represent the brand and provide the most service to parents, and dads, as possible. As a result, I’m highly skilled at becoming a subject matter expert on the fly — and at representing every section on site, providing a news-forward angle to stories that always ‘ladder up’ to the greater mission of the brand.
Fatherly, News Editor
10/20 – 2/24
As Fatherly’s News Editor, I was responsible with hitting ‘reset’ on the section in 2020 and figuring out core areas of coverage that drive audience — without compromising on our service-forward journalism or what our readers need. Through managing a network of writers, I built a series of core beats for the section, all of which neatly fit into the brand’s objectives and into other sections as the brand and section evolved: we covered celebrity parenting advice, relationship advice stories, the baby naming zeitgeist, complex policy problems like student loan debt, the child tax credit, the efforts for federal paid leave, and the child care crisis.
Fatherly, Reporter
9/17 - 2/24
As I was first hired at Fatherly as an Editorial Fellow, I quickly proved my worth and was hired as a Reporter. As a Reporter, I was responsible for pitching and executing on originally reported features, Q+As, and As-Told-To style pieces across beats. These stories ran the gamut from tales from the social safety net to relationship advice. I was, as part of the Fatherly team, partially responsible for the successful launch of “To Me, He Was Just Dad,” a book by Joshua David Stein and the Fatherly editors that featured As-Told-To essays of the sons of famous and notable dads by keeping the franchise alive on site.
About Me
1994 — Today
I love what I do. Outside of my day job, my main hobby is writing — I’m a member of a long-running workshop where I work on long-form fiction writing. I’m writing my second book now! I also love exercise. I love running, cycling, lifting weights, and yoga. I love to read and I’m an avid home cook and I’m a big follower of the food/wine scene here in New York. I’m also a die-hard Dallas Mavericks fan (Dirk forever!). I have a pet dog, Blueberry, who I love — Prospect Park is our weekend destination!
